Go on – admit it! You thought the recorder was that squeaky plastic pipe so beloved of primary school teachers as a beginner’s instrument! Well if you have ever heard our tutor, Moira Fraser-Hook, and her group of friends playing together you would realise just what beautiful and exciting music can be produced.

Although a very long way off their standard, we are fortunate to have in Moira a patient and enthusiastic teacher. Our group presented itself with a great range of ability including a few people who could not read music. We agreed, therefore, to go back to basics and to learn together and the progress we have all made is remarkable. Within the group of twenty-two we have members playing descant, treble and tenor recorders and already, after eight weeks, we are able to play a few simple concert pieces.

Our meetings are held every Thursday at 10.00am in Bulwark Community Centre, which has great facilities and free parking.

“We are the music-makers” – and we are thoroughly enjoying ourselves!
